Ethno Lounge
Tonko’s Ethno Lounge in Uralsk masterfully reinterprets Kazakh cultural traditions through immersive design elements, seamlessly blending Turkic heritage with modern architectural artistry.
The concept of the “ETHNO LOUNGE” restaurant is a modern interpretation of Kazakh cultural traditions. Our task was to reimagine iconic elements of Turkic heritage as architectural art objects.
The visitor experience is designed to gradually reveal the interior, starting from the entrance through an arch adorned with petroglyphs of nomadic tribes, which opens into the main hall. Here, an accent column with curved metal sheets symbolizes the armor of ancient Turks, while an art installation in the form of a canopy features engraved lines from the 9th-century Book of Divination.
In the second hall, you’ll find chandeliers inspired by traditional women’s jewelry—”Shekelik”—as well as projections displayed on curtains, showcasing early 20th-century films of local landscapes.
Most of the interior is executed in dark tones: textured rocky walls, bar facades finished with carved wood, and dark, sturdy furniture.
